Historia de España vindicada, by Pedro Peralta Barnuevo. Edited, Annotated, and with a Critical Introduction by Jerry M. Williams.
This critical edition of Peralta Barnuevo’s Historia de España vindicada makes the text accessible to students, scholars, and the general public for the first time in more than 275 years. The (re)surging international interest in Peralta occurs at a time when extant approaches to Latin American Studies are undergoing yet another revision by a new group of Hispanic, European, and North American scholars. These writers, in shifting focus away from postcolonial theory in favor of alternative methods that explore the overall effect of decolonization and Creolization, have introduced Peralta’s works into undergraduate and graduate programs as required reading. This move toward centering Peralta within the canon of Latin American letters—and thus making him less of a parenthetical note—has produced engaging research and essays that study Peralta’s unique Creole-identity politics. - from the Introduction
