"Discordancias cervantinas," by Julio Baena: EBOOK (PDF)
Cervantes is famous—or infamous—for his “mistakes,” or “errors” in the writing of his most famous double novel. This is a book devoted to those errors, and to “err” itself both as a vital component of Cervantes’ discourse and as a category of ethic/aesthetic (in)definition. From the very title, Baena puts himself squarely on the quest for the opposite of those who would be looking for concordancias with or without the help of computers. To the perfect Quixote, the author can oppose only a text equally utopian: the imperfect Quixote. Discordancias cervantinas can be read on several levels, depending on the purpose of the reader. As a useful book of reference, it contains one of the largest catalogs of Cervantine “errors” available today, in many pages of appendices. It also contributes the detailed analysis of some particularly significant or troublesome “errors” that have not been dealt with in recent years. As such, it is probably one of two books to which any interested scholar must go. This book is written in Spanish.
