Collection: Juan de la Cuesta Hispanic Monographs
Founded in 1978, Juan de la Cuesta Hispanic Monographs (the modern namesake of the original Madrid printer of Cervantes' masterpiece, Don Quijote) publishes scholarly literary criticism, critical editions, and critical translations of medieval to modern works, with a focus on the Spanish Golden Age. The world’s most respected and emerging scholars have a publishing home at Cuesta; their work invites honest debate and brings innovative, peer-reviewed scholarship to academic professionals as well as enthusiasts. Since its inception, we at Juan de la Cuesta Hispanic Monographs have been pleased to serve the academic community by publishing important, enduring, sometimes controversial books.
Cuesta books have won numerous awards, including the Association for Hispanic Classical Theater's Vern Williamsen Comedia Book Prize, the Fundación José Manuel Lara Award, the Premio Nacional de Bibliografía de la Biblioteca Nacional de España, and most recently the ACHT's 2022 Franklin Smith Comedia Translation Prize for the UCLA Working Group's translation of Ana Caro's The Courage to Right a Woman’s Wrongs.
